Really struggling with this wine. Third bottle from a case of six. I've settled on this wine being far too young for me to enjoy. After two hours' decant, still aggressively tannic, after another hour or so could make out aromas of violet and orange peel, but overall remained unbalanced. Remaining three will stay in my cellar for a long time.

Opened and decanted an hour ahead of Italian-dressing/herb-crusted pork chops broiled in the oven. Transparent, purple color with a razor's edge clear hue. Floral nose bring a hint of orange peel followed by spring violets, potpourri, wood smoke, black tea, cinnamon-sugar, nutmeg, and blackberry compote. The palate is medium, square, compact, and juicy, bringing a sharp edge of tangy huckleberries, blackberries, red cherries, cherry bitters, pomegranate, black licorice, and cloves into a tannic yet refined finish. I'm sensitive to tannins but surprisingly found this fresh, vibrant, and nimble to drink. Still, will be best 2026-2040. Technical score; 93. Enjoyment score: 95.

Classic Barolo style, which means overly tight and high acid in its youth. Not even close to ready to drink. 2016 might be a long-aging year, so maybe look at this again in 2040 or thereabouts.

This will be a great bottle in 2031. My first taste of Barolo. From everything I read this was way too early to open but I let my curiosity get the best of me. Although the Nebbiolo tannins turned my face inside out I still enjoyed the red fruit, leather and dark chocolate here.
