Wine Ramblings belated birthday gathering at ESK. Upright for few days already. Cork perfectly removed with Durand. Drank in Conterno Sensory. Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour with thin garnet rim. Legs. Nose medium intensity, with aromas of VA nail polish, ripe red cherries, dark red plums. Developed. On the palate, dry, softened medium+ acidity, high alcohol (14.5%), integrated tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of black cherries, dark red plums, ripe red cherries, sweet spices, leather, savoury black cherries. Long leathery structured finish. Very good quality. Modern styled. Drinking in a good place already. Wow it actually improves on day 3! With classic sour red cherries taking over the dark fruits, and the gentle savoury mushrooms in the background. No signs of going downhill or oxidative at all. Drinking it in the clear it is more red fruited. Whereas with the sediments mixed in it takes on a darker and black fruited character.

Dinner at Wimborne. ~2+ hours of air in bottle. Drank in Grassl Cru. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose medium+ intensity, with aromas of VA nail polish, mushroom and earth, dark red cherries, black cherries, licorice, sweet spices. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, high alcohol (14.5%), integrated high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet spices, sweet oak, licorice, black cherries, dark red cherries, dark red plums, bit of mushroomy earth, balsamic. Long finish. Very good quality. Seems quite obviously modern styled to me. But nice. More or less integrated, though I feel it still can develop a bit more over the next maybe 3-4 years. From a single parcel in Villero cru, in the commune of Castiglione Falletto.

Nose: There is a touch of oak at first on the nose, but it peels back into sour red cherries, raspberries, licorice, tar, ashen notes, mint, currants, violets, and earth tones.
Taste: The feel is Medium/full bodied with tart, high acid and well integrated, high tannins. The structure has pulled back a bit as the sour red fruits shine on the palate with raspberries, currants, sour red cherries, licorice, tar, violets, and earth tones.
Overall: This is in a beautiful spot right now. It has entered a mature phase with the primary fruits starting to recede and the tertiary notes starting to emerge. It has entered that middle phase that can bring a lot of joy for at least another 5+ years.

At WS dinner. Paired with short rib Ragu. Splendid!
Steely and younger than expected for the vintage. Well balanced fruit and a nice bit of acid. Could really have gone another 5 - 10 years before drinking. Lots of blackberry, turf, and a nice herbal aspect. Color is dense with no bricking on the edges yet, deep ruby in color. Dried cherries and and plum accents as well.

Red fruited with a good deal of cedar spice with some earth and tar in the background. Medium+ bodied with tannins that are still quite firm. This was decanted for 8 hours and it could have used more air. Best after 2022; should last for decades.
