This is a young classic Serralunga Barolo from a warmer vintage. The fruit profile is darker, yet not roasted. Good acidity and balance. This needs time!!

Double-decanted five hours before serving. This wine is a prime example of the importance of producer, and of how great producers can make compelling wines even in the poorest vintages. This bottle showed few signs of 2003’s heat; it was lifted, aromatically and on the palate, from the start. Dark fruits, streaks of intense minerality, and fennel, with a still fairly tightly wound core. This will continue to develop for another 5 years. Rated 2 on a scale of -1 to 3.

Decanted for half hour. Brick color. Long legs. Fruit is hidden or even absent at times, but opens up into plum after a bit. Also get some orabge rind and raisins. Earthy and dusty tannins is right as some reviewers noted. Not my fave barolo, but interesting and worth drinking especially for the tough vintage. Might improve in a year.

So elegant, complex, and well-balanced, especially for a tough vintage. Perfectly integrated tannins. Particularly enjoyed the tar and leather notes, and the smoothness of this wine.

A blessedly long finish full of sweet and savory fruit. Dynamite for Chinese? Just a thought. Needs some time, but the stuffing is all there.
