Translucent dark ruby. Nose of fresh violets, dark cherry, fennel, compact earth. Layers of surprisingly fresh raspberry, Bing cherry, cinnamon, and traces of earthy cola on the palate. Filed off tannin and bright acidity. Longer finish of echoing red berry and deep earth. Tastes so young! Wonderful showing, as we watch the Mariners clinch a wild card spot for postseason play.

The Blind Drunks monthly tasting (Isabella's Estiatorio, Geneva, Illinois): Served blind. Notes of cherries, spice and a faint earthiness. Flavors of plum, cherry, red fruit and raspberry. Fine tannins. Incorrectly guessed Burgundy.
