Uncorked and left for two hours. Then poured, no decant.
Spicy, dusty, tobacco cedar and earth, with violets, and then darker fruits, plums & black cherry. Certainly in its secondary/tertiary phase, with the earthier woody notes to the fore and the fruit slightly more shy. But still very good and the fruit still has a decent presence.
One the palate plums and black cherry make the initial appearance but then meld into softer red fruits, red cherries and strawberries dipped in chocolate. A decently silky mouthfeel too. If this sounds too decadent, there’s a substantial umami tannic structure of cedar, tobacco and earth and a still assertive acid presence that bites on the back palate.
Very enjoyable, with a slight feeling that I came to the party a little late to enjoy the wine in full bloom. This is reinforced by a touch of oxidation creeping in after a couple of hours. But this was an online auction purchase so YMMV.

Auction purchase, firm cork 2/3 soaked. Splash decanted off moderate fine sediment. Showing slight bricking. Red cherry, raspberry. A bit of minerals and ash. 14.5% ABV, nice mouthfeel, silky, even with the medium body and tart, juicy acidity. Very fine.

Dark red color. Slow-O for 90 minutes. Drank a glass over an hour. Anise, tar, black olive, black cherry, a little celeryseed and vegetal edge on the nose. The palate shows blackberry, black cherry liqueur, black licorice, gravel, with fairly round tannins and full body.

Opened at 4:30, straight to decanter, sediment, but nowhere near what I saw on the 03.
Served at 6:30, nice aromas and body.
