This is a single vineyard dry German Riesling Grosses Gewächs (Grand Cru) from the Nahe wine region. Beautiful medium golden color with some soft greenish notes towards the rim. Fantastic expressive nose with lots of citrus notes. On the palate ripe citrus, gooseberries, young peach, lots of green herbs and an elegant cold saltiness. Medium (+) bodied with a high acidity. Great fruit depth and an amazing overall complexity. It feels a little wild, a little stubborn in the moment. Overall balance is very good but will get even better with more time. The finish is long and savory with lots of sexy mineral notes. Already drinking beautifully although it will definitely profit from 2-3 years more in the cellar. Drink from now until 2030. (IG)

This has so much stuffing, but ouch, it’s painfully young. Knife-edge acidity and laser-like precision, a truckload of minerals, wreathed in flowers and well delineated fruit. Good length, but it needs a year or five to round out the edges. 92+

Nahe night at Table, Donkey and Stick (Chicago, IL): #10-17, 12% abv. Tasted next to the Halenberg, which I preferred to this. This is the racier of the two, showing a little more of a herbal quality, as well as a touch of green on the fruit on the palate. The acidity is more exposed too because the fruit doesn't have has much girth here. Nonetheless a very compelling bottle of GG that obviously needs much more time to come into its own. I would not be upset owning this over the Halenberg, even if I did prefer the Halenberg more.

Popped, poured, consumed over next 90 minutes. Well integrated, lots going on, reasonably fleshy, balanced with nice acids, lovely, lingering finish.
