Christmas evening bottle. And what an amazing one! No formal notes - just short scribblings, but a stunning, breathtakingly great Chablis. The best bottle I have had. Such depth, almost impossible to describe. Nose with loads of ocean spray and flinty minerals, the loveliest white flowers imaginable, citrus/lemon flowers/lemon juice. Palate is filled with citrus and minerals, crystalline citrus fruits, high tension vibrant acidity and crushed wet gravel. Super length and bite with an extraordinary texture. Young as hell still, but so good - elegant and so complex. A masterpiece - easily the best bottle of Chablis I have had the pleasure to drink.

Sesame, crushed stone, chiseled yellow fruit, reductive. Quite classic. After twelve hours of air it remains unchanged. These 2014 giants remain somewhat immortal... see you in thirty years, hopefully. 95++

Sunday Lunch with Raveneau Chablis and Chave Hermitage (Piccino Restaurant, San Francisco): Pale yellow. Herbs and bright citrus. Medium weight, no wood imprint. Discretely ripe orchard fruit and citrus on the entry, wonderful texture. Elegant, polite, poised, and long. It unfolds slowly and finishes with great soil and stoniness. Still a baby. The least powerful of the 4 vintages of Clos, but an absolute beauty that I would bet on over the long run for its finesse and sense of completeness.
