Method: opened about 1 hour prior; Cab glass; chilled
Nose: sandalwood, licorice, cherry and raspberry, light cardboard; muted
Palate: unripe cherry, forest, licorice, light cardboard; finish of clove, pepper; medium- body; medium acidity; medium- tannin
Overall thoughts: Honestly, this was an enjoyable and interesting wine despite being lightly corked. I'm sure a well stored and non-corked bottle of this would be excellent.

Deep dark red, no brick.dark for its age. Rich, dark spices, plums. Red and black berries, licorice and tar spice, hint of earth, strong long finish. Perfectly rustic, in a very good way. Sweet ripe fruit, intense and resonant. Absolutely delicious. Timeless.

This 78 Rayas has seen better days, showing a slightly faded nose of brown sugar, cherry, freshly cracked pepper, and game bird. I seemed to be in the minority finding this on the downhill slope.

Classic Rayas fruit, without less definition to the palate than this vintage can at times show. Complex aromatics. Very good but not perfect bottle.

A Quartet of Rayas: For me this was simply a fantastic old wine. Loved it, and easily wine of the flight (1978,1989,1990,2005).
