  • Pretty strawberry, touch of grass and mineral. Light and airy but with enough grip to remind you it’s a Rousseau. A fun wine that is drinking well now although I believe it is at its peak.

  • Very elegant, cool-ish pinot here. Exquisite balance speaks to the excellent winemaking. A little thin on the palate, but pleasing overall. And that balance....A nice mix aromatically, including telltale Gevrey earth. Would buy again if the price was right. No rush to drink, but no perceptible upside either.

  • Very good right now. WOTN as compared to a 1997 Ponsot Griottes Chambertin and a 1990 Jadot Clos Vougeot. Example of what great producers can do even in average vintages (2001).

  • The 2001 Rousseau Lavaux St. Jacques was an impressive young Burgundy, even if sampled a few years before its time. This middle weight wine was not quite as concentrated as some of the other wines tasted in the week, but I suspect some more bottle age would fatten it up further.

  • Underwhelming and overpriced. Not a terrible wine, quite pretty actually. But considering the producer, this borders on silly. Very light weight flavors, it all seems a very diluted. Extended aeration brings more weight and broadens the palate, but I've gotten more concentration and complexity from a $20 Bourgogne. The fruit lives very much on the red side of the spectrum, with light flowery elements and -- if you concentrate -- some spices. I wouldn't be surprised if it picks up some complexity as it's still young, but I don't see any reason to buy this in the first place.
