Just finished my last bottle of a case purchased two years ago. Outstanding showing for a village wine of this age. Bought at the same time as a case Merode 1988 Renardes and this wine blew the Renardes away bottle for bottle. The weight is villages but the red fruits are still present and fresh...pretty long with notes of tobacco and barnyard in the middle. A real treat to drink a village wine with age and the legs for it.

Opens up to a lovely fruit cake of ageing fruit, slightly rough, in very good health. Good acidity and some tannins. With a couple of hours breathing some violets and spice. Just about coming round... after 26 years... built for the long term and probably has some complexity that shorter-term village wines don't have, but hard to say... Delicious anyway

Mouldy cork, wet half-way to top. Meaty ageing fruit, nice balance and tasty but thin - not nearly as good as another bottle from same source, presumably due to poor cork. Then fills out, much better, very nice juice

Sweet pretty red fruit on nose, little sign of age. Delicious richly complex fruit on mouth, quite light and short, but a wonderful bouquet for a few seconds. still some structure, could last a while at this rate. With breathing it opens to warm secondary flavours and more length.
Amazingly good for a 23yo village wine, but old pa maume had a reputation for long lived wines
