  • Gorgeous fruit driven juice from a heavenly vintage. Barolos and Barbarescos from -61 seem to be often fruit bombs compared to -64s which may at first appear to be a bit less impressive. This wine is a good example of the fruit driven qualities. However, after some consideration the -64s may turn out to be even better that he rivalling -61s thanks to the balance and long lingering aftertaste. These two vintages are so good that they are definitely worth searching for to be able to explore and compare the super good qualities.

  • Moderately dark, translucent cherry / pomegranate color tending to mature brick orange; surprisingly dark hue considering the age of the wine. Sweet, mature and incredibly complex bouquet of wizened dark cherry, sweet red cherry, tar, dried roses, some sweet leather notes, a little raisin and a hint of dill. The nose is aged, but still far from old, with remarkable purity and brightness. Medium-bodied palate with pure, rich flavors of remarkable clarity and energy. Notes of dark-toned fruit, dark cherry, dusty earth, tar, cedar, old dark chocolate (not oak chocolate, but something that emerges with age), a hint of sweet plummy fruit and a touch of sweet raisin. The flavors have aged gracefully and they are layered in a complex, interveawing net of nuances. Good, structured acidity and surprisingly grippy tannins. Rich, complex and a bit dusty finish with remarkable depth and complexity. Flavors of dried prunes, dark cherries, earth, some smoke, a little sour cherry and a hint of leather in the lengthy finish. Good tannic bite that grips the gums.

This is incredible stuff; the wine is surprisingly lively and focused, taking its 55 years of age into account. Has hit its peak, but is yet to start its downhill; can still hold for a number of years, but no need to cellar it anymore. One of the greatest Produttoris I've ever had; just behind the impressive 1964 in this vertical of Produttoris 1990-1961. A true testament to the ageability of Produttori's normale Barbies and an experience in itself. Stunning.
