Domaine de Chevalier vertical with Olivier Bernard (Le Cafe Descartes at the French Embassy): Fully mature nose with subdued fruit expression, lemon curd, strangely licorice, burnt sugar, lanoline and limestone. Very good concentration, medium acidity and mineral and a medium long lemon crud riven finish with a hint of burnt sugar at the end. The fruit is subdued and the expression is a bit too straightforward.

Domaine de Chevalier Tasting (French Embassy): Really cool aromatic display here, with green olives, almond skin, mint, candle wax, with pure lemon and apricot fruit that still shows liveliness. Rich, mouth-filling texture but there precise acidity keeps it bright. Orange marmalade, peach nectar fruit, balanced with these green olive, mushroom, honeycomb, ginger. Wow, this has aged incredibly well. Fascinating stuff and a treat.

Two bottles drunk with family at Christmas dinner. Equally superb but highly variable. The first with balsa aromas, wonderful grainy oak nuances on the palate with lemon oil, exotic fruits and long dry finish. With potential for limited future development. The second with pure vanilla nose following on to the palate with broadly the same fruit profile - much more mature feel although neither bottle showed any undue oxidation. Variabiity (even at this fine level) suggests this is for drinking up over the next year or so whilst at its peak.

Light orange. Nose of light butterscotch, wax, sherry. Not particularly long/deep/profound, but interesting. Don't think this has further aging potential.

Much better than last bottle, which seemed muted, perhaps over the hill. This had a golden yellow color, suggesting oxidation, but the nose was pure rocks, lanolin, some dates and star fruit. Drying a bit, but just great! Too bad it was the last bottle... would love to see where it goes in a few years, with this wonderful Semillon nose!
