A deep purple. I would not have guessed burgundy from its look or its the nose. Lots of lovely red fruits and raspberries, later some chocolate. Still very vibrant but tannic. I think this needs another 5-10 years as still relatively primary. But this is good.
I recommend drinking 2023-2035+
Drank with SM and his wife at our house.

During a La Paulee dinner, so no detailed tasting notes. Rustic, drying tannins, painful. Not really convincing, from the period before the new team took helm. Luckily quality is much better today. Try the sublime 2015.

La Paulée de SF Verticals Tasting (Fairmont Hotel, SF CA): 09/07/03 Vertical. Interesting to see the difference between the 09 and 07. More classic and stern here, even in a hot year. The nose is reserved and austere. On the palate you immediately see the wall of tannin. The fruit is there but currently getting crushed by firm, dry tannins. Will be interesting to see this if/when the tannins soften.

La Paulée de San Francisco - The Verticals (The Fairmont - San Francisco CA): Tasting, brief note. In 09/07/03 vertical. Dense and very tannic. You can really see the old Faiveley style coming through here. I have no idea when/ how will this emerge into something interesting.

A Slice of La Paulée's 2018 Burgundy Producer Verticals Tasting (The Fairmont, San Francisco): Deep red, impressive saturation for 15 year old wine. Biggest of these wines by far. Ripe, candied, spicy, and tannic. Still needs a good bit of time.
