Nose: dried leaves, wet earth, blueberry, mushroom, red fruits, spices Notes: pop and pour. The old vintages of Faiveley, especially their grand crus from Gevrey are usually quite delicious, Ive already done a couple of them from the 1990s and all of them are showing well. This wine is well balanced and at an excellent spot now, probably not suitable for further aging. Drink: now+ Rating: 91

Tasted side by side with the 96 Beze. This was much more open for business with cherries, charcoal, spices, dark fruits and blueberries. The texture was rich and voluptuous. The wine evolved in the glass. Drink now - no upside to waiting.

Much better than expected, given the inconsistency of the vintage.

Gevrey: Combottes 1er Cru and Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru (Chicago + Zoom): A hard, tight and angular wine that is going nowhere. Not much pleasure to be found -- low 80s showing.

Gevrey-Chambertin Neighbors: Combottes 1er Cru and Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru (Chicagoland IL): Sorry, I do not appreciate this wine. While dense, there are too many firm and coarse tannins for the amount and quality of fruit still hanging around.
