  • Mature yet vigorous, this seems close to peak for my mileage with a silky texture but still bumptious fruit and body. Some floral, fresher scents on the bouquet belie the signature here, which is quintessentially '90 in style, quite roasted and a touch porty-pruney. What saves it from going over the top is a rustic, old vine energy (I don't know if the vines are old at P-D and I doubt they were in 1990, but it has a vinous VV profile... though in this case it could be from the drought conditions during the growing season concentrating and darkening the fruit, rather than old vines). Sappy, dark, rugged, this is lots of fun to drink, making up for what it lacks in elegance with volume and character.

  • 2nd time having this with the last time 2 years ago. The nose is sublime but the juice is a step or two behind. No need to hold longer, drink up. 92+

  • Started out as an interesting aged right bank. Probably a bit past it's peak. Had some nice fruit at the start that faded. Then got worse. Had a second wind, where the tertiary notes were noticeable and great with food. Didn't measure up to the three other 1990 bordeaux(Las Cases, Lynch, Canon LG) in the lineup but fun to try. Probably not a perfectly stored bottle, but wouldn't call it flawed.

  • Elegant and smooth. What a beautiful wine to share with friends. We did not decant but simply let the wine breathe in the glass, not sure how much I'd cellar this vintage but certainly it's in it's drinking window

  • Half of a mini vertical that included the 1985 Pavie Decesse. This one was muscular and tight, beginning with a lot of forward flavors of dark fruit and tar with color to match, not brown at all. As you'd expect, it had a lingering, rich finish that made everyone relish each glass. All in all, a wonderful surprise for a wine that could have been early maturing but probably has a good 5-10 years left. My bottle had perfect storage at 60 degrees until the cork was removed.
