I have had mixed results from the 6 bottles I've opened from the same case over the past three years. This bottle was in the middle, not as fresh as others, but still showing good spice, mature character and balance.

I have had mostly good success with this wine, having purchased a case at auction. Down to my final two bottles, this was the least interesting bottle with a very advanced character that might not be surprising for many 1997s, but not really for those from Jadot.

Much better than another bottle from the same case opened a few weeks ago. This is showing fresh red fruit aromas and flavors with subtle baking spice hints. Moderate length and good textures, this is a very impressive and balanced 1997 for its level.

Not quite as fresh as another bottle from earlier this year. This was equally fruit and earth driven, still very well textured. If this bottle is more representative, I'd drink by 2015. Need to try a third (tiebreaker) bottle soon.

Popped and poured. Red and black cherry aromas, fresh and vibrant, with some background baking spice. Very similar fruit profile on palate with slightly more prominent spice. Very good acidity and balance for the vintage, this is drinking very well and elegantly right now.
