  • Bday lunch at Wa-I. Tasted blind. Drank in Grassl Cru
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour with very thin garnet rim. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of cranberries, bright red cherries, ?chestnut, slight emerging earth. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), structured medium+ almost high tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of concentrated ripe red cherries, ripe strawberries, cranberries, brambles, slight earth. Juicy long finish.
Very good quality. Defies the vintage. Not sense of green here at all. Still feels like a another few more years of age is no problem at all. Structure showing as it should for the Fuées plot.

  • Medium red. Clean and clear. Nose has not very expressive - grudgingly reveals red fruit. Palate tight initally but opens up with lean red cherry, some flowers and a high acid and medium tannic finish. Still lean and reserved since last tasted 4-5 years ago. A strict Chambolle and perhaps the fruit might not be generous enough to outlast the tannin and acid.

  • Violets and blueberry consistent on the palate with hint of green on the tannins. In a very good stage now.

  • Drinking exceptionally well yet I still wish I had given it another few years. Meanwhile this 11' Fuees (one of my favorite Chambolle vineyards) was showing fine dried herbs, black tea and an array of tart red fruits. Very well put together and well balanced (a touch on the more acid side of the world but that gave it fine lift and freshness). I really liked this wine and I am starting to enjoy a lot of the better 11s' even though it was not a much heralded vintage for the reds.

  • This is still quite young. The wine came across differently depending on how much air time it had - but w/ nice red fruit and a medium body.
