Community Tasting Notes (4) Avg Score: 91.7 points

  • Ruby and still youthful. Nose of raspberry and blackberry, wood polish and floral notes. The palate has lots of intensity, red and black fruits, autumn forest floor, some black pepper.

  • Beautiful red garnet. Nose of strawberries, raspberries. With airing some garrigue in the background. No bacon fat here. Taste was similar to the nose. Blinded, I would have guessed Pegau with some age. I like Pegau and I liked this, but atypical for Cote Rotie.

  • Light ruby which fades to a narrow dark mahogany at rim. An absolutely soaring, complex and perfectly delineated developed bouquet of tobacco, schisty smoked bacon, pure and clear damp soil and violets/lilies. There's probably black pepper in there but I have a blind spot for this component. This is much lighter on the palate than the bouquet would suggest. Fully mature and light to medium bodied with very firm acidity (surprising given my other experiences with this vintage at other addresses) providing the structure. The tannins are almost completely absorbed now and there is only a whisper of very fine powder left. The flavours are frank, but mostly of the redcurrant and more developed tobacco variety. Not the greatest length nor persistence here, but well enough balanced if you don't mind wines weighted more towards acidity than fruit power. Absolutely ready to drink with further development unlikely, but no rush as the acidity will preserve this for a while yet. I would score this 97 (really) or so for the nose, but only 88 for the palate. The score I quote is what I would expect for most people. A personal score would be 95, but then I really love sniffers wines...

  • Excellent smokey, barnyardy, very traditional wine. More on the nose, which is wonderfully meaty and gamey, than the palate, but nicely balanced and fully resolved. Very nice.
