Surprisingly lovely, given the year. Deep ruby, some mahogany to rim. More blackberry maybe than normal, black plum, but so complex too. Real barnyard early on, plus smokey bacon, olive paste and so on. Great acidity too. Good length. Tannins just a bit coarse but never intrusive. Most enjoyable, sadly only one bottle!

France Trip Part 2 - Northern Rhône; 6/18/2006-6/20/2006: Tasted at the domaine. 97% Syrah / 3% Viognier. Black. Initially closed and brooding on the nose. Smoke, meat, tar, ash. Smells like my BBQ smoker grill. Deep, dark fruit lurking in the background. Tight, tannic, and still closed. Excellent.

Tasted at the domaine. Nose closed, though what's there is pitch-black. On the palate, black fruit, tar, ash, fig. BIG tannins, though balanced. Excellent.
