A real treat this! Courtesy of a collector friend shared at dinner. On nose: smoked bacon and coffee. On palate : a follow through of the above , in addition to raspberry , damp earth and a hint of rosemary and sage elements the tannic backbone has loosened up nicely over the last 36 years! A spicy meaty herbal elixir of a Northern Rhone ....on par with a Jamet 2007 tasted last year( this will be the Jamet's future profile).....the perfect wine with duck or venison or pulled pork.....Will age effortlessly for another decade.

Winorama: A winter in Wineland III; 1/4/2019-1/13/2019 (Portland/Willamette, Eureka, Napa): A wine that was fully in secondary and maybe even tertiary flavors. This is straight up animal feral. There's a hint of the dark fruits that existed before, but they aren't what comes to mind when drinking the wine. Instead it's all bacon fat and more savory notes. To me very compelling and interesting. It's not a wine you can share with everyone, but we were lucky to have a fellow wine enthusiast at dinner so it worked.

Clape Cornas Vertical (RN74, San Francisco): A small sample presented post-event. Salisbury steak and gentle hoisin aromas and flavors, but much more structured and deep than the '85, with a resonant finish. Beautiful and in very fine condition.

Extremely well stored. Deep ruby still with some browning at the edge. Black peppery through and through. Beef tartare red fruity cherryish on the palate. Really blossomed with air, perfume like nose. palate coating/creamish on the palate, long fine lingering finish. Strikes me that modern Cote Rotie is a much different animal.

(Pierre Barge Côte-Rôtie) Bricking medium red violet color with pale meniscus; cigar box, bacon, bacon fat, roasted red fruit, pepper nose; youthful yet, bacon fat, olive, black fruit, pepper, nicely balanced palate; medium-plus finish
