  • Atemberaubend!

  • Rich and round ! In fact too rich and round for a higher score for me. Missed some coolness. Hot year ?

  • We decanted the wine for 90 minutes before we poured the first glass. It offered sweet fruit, dried apricot and smoke on the nose, and sweet fruit, herbs and liquorice on the slightly spicy palate. The Pinot was medium- to full-bodied, with a good, creamy mouthfeel and phenomenal length. As most German Pinots from the 2009 vintage it was very accessible and drank very well despite its youth. We liked it quite a bit and finished the bottle in no time. It arguably is not on eye-level with its brother "Meyer-Näkel Walporzheimer Kräuterberg Spätburgunder Großes Gewächs 2009" (which, I am sure, must be from another planet), but nevertheless a very serious and outstanding Pinot Noir from this quality producer that has probably made the most impressive overall range of Pinot Noirs of all producers in Germany in 2009.

  • Dark ruby with some slight purple hightlights. The nose is complex, balanced with oak notes. Fruit notes like ripe cherries, blackberry, raspberry are accompanied by floral notes like violet, spices, smoke, roasted nuts, strong mineral and and slight animal notes such as leather. Chocolate and mushroom emerge after a while. Almost full-bodied, soft and lively acidity and has some sweetness coming from the fruit. The distinctive tannins are well-integrated, pretty concentrated, vivid and strong with its minerality on the palate. The alcohol on its balanced and long finish does not affect the pleasure.
