Talk about a gorgeous pinot noir from Germany no less. A bottle was opened up on our Oregon night. This one was so tight to begin with, but after a few hours in the decanter it stole the night and outshines all the Oregon by a good distance. Make more in the style of burgundy, this was so good.

Pale crimson coloured showing an array of red berries with medicinal undertones. Richly flavoured on the palate with pomegranate and cornelian cherry yet leaving an obvious warmth by the finish. Still, very nicely textured and balanced.

Spatburgunder tasting chez Rasoul (Vancouver, BC): This had a nice floral, cherry and tart raspberry nose but its real strength was on the palate with more extremely fine tannins and more acidity too. Definitely the most structured of these four spatburgunders and probably the most balanced as well. I think I slightly preferred the nose on the ’09 but the palate on this 2010. Great now, better with a few years I’d think. Excellent. 90+
