Sangiovese study, Volume II (Chicago, IL): Dark fruit, with a distinct iron tone. Meaty and rustic, somewhat reminiscent of what old Clape could do. Lots of tannic power and still plenty of dark fruit here. Very convincing sangiovese of a decidedly different style from the other wines tonight.

N: Slightly closed; Oxygenated sour cherries with notes of toast
P: LM, POSS L, body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt met by astringent pucker which evolves into a LONG, tangy/swt finish with a very, VERY slight bitterness to the MINIMAL, very, VERY fine tannins. Time to drink, & would be BEST with food, though SHOULD hold through '20, poss '21. 13.5% ABV; My EXC, poss EXC/EXC+. 94 pts Vinous (D'Agata), 93 Falstaff Magazine (12/30/05), and 16.5+ (6/30/12) and 17.5+/20 (12/4/14) Jancis Robinson (Speller).

Two bottles opened with the second one much better; certainly mature and Grand Vin here. #SøllerødKro
