Had it tonight at a restaurant. Recommended by the sommelier and it was a big win. We had fish and Bolognese, and it fit fine for both. Good fruit, excellent structure and snap for food compatibility. I was surprised by the terroir in it, usually do not expect that from a Chianti.

Thought I’d check in on this one, and really it’s not quite there yet, the nose is great, dark cherry, clove and earth, very evocative. The palate is largely dark berry fruit, still needs to unfurl more and quite a few tannins to soften. It’s a larger scaled Chianti, plenty of good material and nice length. I’d leave this for another few years at least, but maybe not the longest life ahead of it

Unbelievably good, there was some funk and overt ripeness at the start of this that made me think it might be a big styled wine in the process of decay but it just needed an hour to stretch the legs. The concentration and Chianti typicity here are absolute top notch, acidity is on point, my only small criticism is that the heat of the vintage shows in the weight and alcohol so those who prefer leaner, more classic Chianti might skip this one. How was this wine ever just $40?

UWS a random set of wines (@ JB): Cherries and earth in the bouquet. Same on the palate. Juicy acidity and tannin. Full bodied and a firm amount of good acidity and tannin.

Medium body. Medium plus acidity. Nicely rounded tannins, but still firm. Medium plus finish. Popped and poured, and re-poured. Opening slowly now. I get red fruits, fresh leather and peppercorn. Still quite fruity on the palate, but black cherry and blackberry, despite the red fruit aromas. The tannins and acidity are well balanced, but the fruit is waning.
