Mild funk, mildly red fruited nose, (dry) red fruited flavors, brickish red color, balsamic, get some dried red and black cherry flavors, mild acid, mild but noticeable tannins, very good, but definitely not going to get any better and possibly slightly over the hill.

Beautiful color but lighter. Very red. Scented with red fruit. The wine is different from the preceding Barolo, the 1997 Fratelli Giacosa. The Fontanafredda is lighter and prettier. The wine has a nice rosy feel to it offering scented enjoyment in a lighter format. Beautiful in very way. Last bottle. Bought it in Winnipeg at Fenton's about 20 years ago. $14 then! Great bottle.

Decent, well-made barolo. If lacking a bit in depth, and past its prime by a couple of years, it still has a classic profile of iron, leather, boullion, and sour cherry. Opened without standing it up for a few days--a mistake. Pleasant, but for the vintage it lacks the suppleness and depth of fruit in many 1990s. A nice way to satisfy an aged-Nebbiolo fix.

"Dirty" aromas of leather, manure and mushroom. Mature and good Barolo.
