Decanted about an hour before serving. Far lighter than the 1997 and 1998, which have been utterly fantastic of late. Not as much "stuff" in the glass as with those vintages, and I wonder if this didn't peak a few years ago. That having been said, the feminine, cool climate Montevertine profile was in clear relief, with a slightly sweet palate of black and red cherries, mushrooms, and sandalwood. Paired great with fettuccine with mushrooms. Drink now. Rated 1 on a scale of -1 to 3.

Very elegant with a beautiful nose. The palate remained quite restrained the entire time though. Decanted this wine, but wish that I would have given it an extra hour of air before pouring it into glasses.

Really elegant and gentle, lovely to follow over the course of dinner at Szechuan Gourmet (although a bit too light to really match the spicier dishes on the table) with savoury cherries, raspberry, earth and black tea flavours lifted by bright acidity.
