Consumed from a 375 ml bottle. Decanted for 1 hour. Had his been served blind, I would have guessed left bank Bordeaux and called it a great St. Julien from the 2005 vintage. Maybe a 2005 Gruaud Larose? Loads of tobacco and some Bordeaux funk. I also detect a touch of brett, which I don't mind as long as it does not overpower the wine.

Decanted and drank within two hours with a reverse sear smoked ribeye. Threw some sediment Amazing pairing.
Wine has ample acidity, tannins are very mellow and integrated, yet feel a bit woody. Very restrained wine with elegant berry fruit. Sandalwood and some graphite notes coming through. Finish is 30+ seconds.
I haven't had a ton of opus. Don't think this vintage is going to get much better though. I know '11 was a challenging year through California.

March 2022 - Opus One Winery Tasting (Opus One Winery): TN: Definitely noticing the age here with more orange hued rim and a garnet core. Nose is pronounced, showing a lot of fruit still and some tertiary notes of leather. On the palette, lots of baking spices, black fruit, dried cranberries, cassis, slight menthol character.
Still holds a firm tannic structure (med+ tannins), long finish, med+ acid, but what holds my attention is the balance between all of its elements. I found this to be the most French styled out of the two flights and it was one of my favorites of the tasting for sure. Not as popular amongst the rest of my group. 95-96pt.
