Colour indicated some age, yet with some clear red colour tones as well. The nose rather classic with tertiary hints. On the palate subdued and delicate primary fruit but earthy notes moe dominating. Very soft tannins. Unfortunately, the palate is short lived, which is actually just about the only thing directly wrong with this one. Not bad, but did not keep up with a hearty stew.

Brian and Tess: This had mature cherry-prune notes, but a bit faded, soft and light; some dusty t’s, most of which had dropped out. This was overwhelmed by the prime rib and really was better on its own, unlike the Hedges. An ok aged bordeaux.

Ruby color with a little age. Bouquet was impressive, if a little woody. Initial reaction - smoooooooth. But that was it - soft tannins, soft everything. Little length. A pleasant enough wine, that just didn't improve on first impressions.

Ferrieres: Seemed old, very earthy, a bit tannic, why are these wines not showing well?

Tasting 5 Bordeaux from 1996 and 1998 (Walnut Creek, Ca.): Great licorice and hints of smoke on the nose, same on the palate, very elegant, very chalky, very structured, needs 5 years, medium/long finish. My #3 of 5.
