Roland's birthday party (Bilthoven): Tasting, brief note. It is easy to knock this, and it is clear that Fourcas-Hosten was not going to produce greatness in 2013. But, as Richard Hemming rightly points out, it delivers an earnest account of the 2013 vintage, with its light body, just ripe fruit (cherry, blackcurrant), hint of liquorice and slightly drying finish. Would be an honourable companion for a nice bavette steak.

UCGB tasting Bordeaux 2013 (Amsterdam): Light color. In the bouquet as well as on the palate a lot of green impressions. There are some red and dark berries, ok acidity and tannin.

Union Des Grands Crus de Bordeaux San Francisco. cepage is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot. Nose of young, inky fruit, little on the palate, that said, enough said, move on to taste something else. $20.

Lean, dry, dry and with a hint of crisp red fruits and cranberry, with an acidic finish.
