Great Burgundy is a rare find. With low yields, prices are extremely high and over the years, I have generally been disappointed. I have found 9 out of 10 bottles have performed lower than I had hoped or expected. HOWEVER, that 10th bottle....well it blows you away. It makes you forget the other 9, and makes you realise why you love burgundy so much. Domaine Leroy Clos de la Roche 1999 was one such bottle. Lalou Bize-Leroy stands virtually alone at the top of Burgundy’s quality hierarchy, because she is a perfectionist. Truly exceptional ...and for that I thank you!!

Plush and polished, with a mineral driven, smoky, red fruit nose with forest, spice and elements on cold steel on the nose. The lushly textured, fresh cherry finish lingers.

Deep of colour and deeply pitched. Sweet cherry and dark fruits abound both on nose and palate. There was a thread of liquorice weaving through the flavour profile and it is full, sweet, dense and long.

A Ramonet Montrachet Vertical & 1999 Grand Cru Horizontal, Mostly Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (The Grill - New York NY): Open 4 hours before serving. Easy to be enamored with this wine. So much ripe red cherry and berry along with some black fruit hints, but really highlighted by the sweet and savory spice. So easy to enjoy, but I frankly found it much more "Leroy" than "Clos de la Roche," but that isn't necessarily a bad thing given how great Leroy can be.

Zachy's La Paulee 2019 (Le Bernardin Prive): 0898/1603. Meaty with cool fruit. So composed with everything in place. Lots of potential. 93+
