We drank the 1990 Leroy and Ponsot Clos de la Roche side by side. Both were fantastic, but I gave a slight nod to the Ponsot. Both showed the best aspects of the vintage.

Pure and almost tart red fruit. Enjoyable but straightforward and simplistic spice on the nose. One dimensional with a lot of red fruit on the frontpalate. Faded across the palate and the flavors came apart too quickly for my liking. The score is perhaps burdened by the comparison to the superior wines that this was served with.

Finally mature and satisfying. Purchased on release from Chicago Wine Company. Fine fragrance of dark berries, just a hint of earth, but very pretty. Full bodied, deeply fruity and slightly acidic finish. Oak is fully integrated. Very fine and poised, will last.

Acker BYO 2012 (Tribeca Grill, Tribeca, NY): Bight Leroy fruit: raspberry and strawberry, cinnamon and sharp bright spices, but there is an odd green component that goes along with stemmy aspects that is too much for me. Very chewy on the palate: stems, plum and green pepper. Well made, but the flavor profile is weird. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je Ne Sais Quoi - 0.5-1/2 = 15.5-16/20.

Strange white capped domaine bottle. Lifted, floral aromatics. Classic Leroy, lightweight version of Vosne wines. (1494/2610)
