  • Not a wine style I have much experience with, so I am not providing a numerical rating. I enjoyed the wine. It had had nice depth and aged flavors that I struggled to resolve. But it was also crisp and angular like a young wine waiting to settle down. Odd, but enjoyable.

  • Bourdy Tasting - Wine 5:

Huge! It took the barnyard descriptor to other levels, showing large mammal urine, as the part of zoos that houses elephants, giraffes, and rhinoceros, etc., smells. I asked J. F. Bourdy about the difference between this and the 1990, and to him it was a function of vintage. The 'zooyard' did not appear to strike him as anything beyond the norm. Otherwise, tremendous acid and power.

  • Funk and light petrol on the initial nose, with creamy lemon, papaya and smoke with air time. A sticky textural palate with saline notes and a steely acid finish. Worked well with fluke and sea urchin.
