  • The nose was an amalgam of warm wet straw, lanolin and some emerging whiffs of honey. The acid was still lurking behind a core of fruit that emerged more fully as the glass warmed. While the the wine is drinking very well now, I remain doubtful that it will improve much further especially given the lower acidity present in the wine. It may become marginally mellow over the next three years or so. Whatever, a delight with battered orange roughie and chips.

  • {screwcap, 11.5%} Bit outrageous for a weeknight, perhaps. Fairly pale grey/green colour. Partly developed nose with notes of lime citrus, tobacco, a bit of earth. Not overly fruity palate either, with the citrus a bit covered by earth, brown straw. Medium weight, or at least with plenty of presence, but it's hardly clunky. Only medium acidity, which is the only danger flag for real longevity here. Medium length finish. Not wonderful, yet, though. Some way still to hit peak, I reckon, no rush to drink.

  • Grape, Grain and Graze Festival (Sydney showgrounds, Sydney): Aromas of toast, butter, honey, lemon, apple. Juicy, tangy, buttery, honey, apple with a little citrus. Good but not great.

  • Still very young and fresh with tongue-tingling acidity. Nose a bit muted, possibly due to being chilled, but there's lemon citrus and hints of something more tropical.
Those tropical notes come to the fore on the palate where tart pineapple and underripe mango are the dominant flavours with some ripe lime coming later.

Great now and should also have a long life ahead of it.

Interesting this bottle seems very different to my last tasting note, hopefully the rest are like this one.

  • I believe 2013 was meant to be a good vintage but I found this wine a touch disappointing in the spectrum of Vat 1s.
Seemed a bit low on acid and prematurely developed given the usual slow aging of Hunter Valley Semillon; though the early approachability could be seen as a bonus.

Not bad but I think should be drunk a little younger than usual, certainly before the great 2011s.
