Bought two bottles several years ago. Opened for 2.5 hours. Time to try. Color is still youthful but there is orange age showing on rim. On the nose: red fruits and some earthy elements. On the palate: Strawberry and cherry, a bit of violet and lavender and a hint of anise at the end. The wine is fresh and holding up extremely well. Only 12.5 degrees of alcohol. This old wine is worth a flutter on.

Previous reviewer notes were spot on: dark strawberry and berry fruits, florals, leather, and a little cocoa. Medium full bodied with a richness coupled with freshness. Ripe fruit yet fresh with excellent acid balance and depth. Not a heavy weight but rather shows subtlety and balance and is not out to hit you over the head with overripe, intense fruit. Quite long finish with some light tannins at the back end. This is an expression of Chianti Classico, single vineyard, at it’s best.

Mature yet still with excellent fruit. Dark strawberry and berry fruits, florals, medicine cabinet, basil, leather, and a little cocoa that I suspect is the wood. Medium full bodied with a richness coupled with freshness. More dark berry fruit, florals, and a ferrous background. The fruit is ripe, yet fresh with excellent acid balance. The fruit has a brightness coupled with its depth. Rich yet not heavy, nice sap and density. Outstanding balance. Quite long with some tannic grip on the back end. At peak.

Private Winetasting: Castello di Ama 1988 (Private Location): Deep red Color with only a few orange Reflexes. Earthy, spicy notes in the notes and in the palate. Long finish. Lasts several more years.
