Munskänkarna Göteborg Champagne Class, session 7, flight I
A spicy scent with apple and a touch of lemon marmalade. Fine mousse, rich body, great fruity and creamy taste full of red apples and some mineral bitterness, concentrated and balanced, brilliant champagne!

The Vieille Vigne De Cramant Grand Cru NV is a rounder, fuller Larmandier-Bernier, brimming over with with ripe fruit character. Luscious notes of red apple skins, buttered croissant, rum cake and smoke. Dark gold in the glass, with a fine, fine mousse and a lovely touch of age. It's quite sensual, modestly fleshy and graced with sun-drenched orchard fruit, grilled peaches, honey, biscuits, and ginger. It's only at the finish, that the minerality shines through, like a single hanging note.

Pleasantly doughy on the nose. More of the same on the palate, which is rich, heavy but balanced. Not a tremendous amount of acidity or bubbles. Much more fruit depth than I've experienced in other Extra Bruts I've had. Overall, this is a tremendous wine, but not one I'd crack in celebratory mode, but rather serve at the dinner table. This bottle was more of a great wine with a few bubbles than a party champagne. Serious stuff.

A private lunch (Restaurant Bord'eau **, Amsterdam, NL): Subtle, fresh and pure, tight but not austere, hints of toast and nuts, creamy lemon, steely acidity, wonderful, salty, mineral finish.

A great, mineral Côte de Blancs, good weight and maturity.
