  • Turns out I did get lucky and found some more. This bottle was just as good if not better than the last. A little less barnyard funk up front than previously. Went awesome with food (lamb chops and root veggies). Nicely developed bottle bouquet, fully resolved tannin with a bit of grip remaining. Aged dark fruit with a hint of cassis.

  • Recently consumed at a wine.woot gathering of pre '97 wines. This one stood out of the pack. List below. Tasting notes borrowed from a better note taker:

When first opened, this bottle showed loads of funk. It wasn't quite barnyard, more like garlic and rubber but not horribly unpleasant, just interesting. This wine developed significantly with time and was always the most interesting wine opened. I personally felt this was the best wine of the night.

On the palate there was loads of earth, especially mushroom and forest floor. The acidity was still very present and made this quite good with the cheese assortment available. Feel like this one could have even gone a few more years, but glad we opened it. Wish I could find more!

  • Consumed at one of my wine tastings. Was good, but not exceptional. A bit over the hill.

  • Tasting of 9 wines with Bruce Cass, Matt and Karla sold the Cutting Board, and it quickly faded from the wine scene in Walnut Creek. Fight C wine 2. 50% cabernet sauvignon, 35% merlot, 10% cabernet franc, 5% malbec, had a great cabernet nose, slightly viscous, well balanced, tart due to high acid, great mouthful of cabernet fruit, long and flavorful finish, lacked the elegance of the Carmenet.
