  • Absolutely incredible! Purchased this wine directly from Biondi Santi, from their "La Storica" release. Since this came directly from Biondi Santi, it helped that it was stored perfectly its whole life. Unbelievable how much fruit this was still showing on a bottle that is 35 years old. Loads of cherry that still comes through, a nice compliment of leather and tobacco as well. The tannins are obviously soft, but still had some structure to it. We couldn't believe how well this was drinking. Honestly, this was a top 5 wine I've ever had. It was my only bottle, and I really wish I had more in the cellar. If you get the opportunity to try this, consider yourself lucky. Magnificent!

  • Opened on Sunday evening with steak at home. Worst cork I have seen in a 30 year old wine: completely soaked, slightly sunken in and signs of leakage.
So was expecting a complete write off. Smelling the open bottle however no signs of oxidization, so poured into decanter and we drank over 2h. Initially very smooth and quite muted, hardly recognizable as Brunello, the wine becomes leaner with more air, the Sangiovese now clearly showing, tannins however still fully integrated. A very nice wine of finesse while remaining clearly Sangiovese.
Mixed feelings overall. Happy that this was not outright dead nor oxidative, which speaks for the longevity of Biondi Santi’s Riserva, at the same time the QPR is a bit of a joke, as this is going at USD800 these days.

  • Da stappare molte ore prima della beva.
Colore rubino intenso, tendente al granato, brillante
Profumo molto sottile, caratteristico, complesso con sfumature di vite in fioritura e di vaniglia
    Leggermente tannico, armonico, caldo,
    sapido e molto persistente

  • Well, this is it. This is why you age wine. A treat to drink Biondi-Santi anytime. A very special treat to drink a fully mature Riserva. It pours out a translucent rusty orange/amber color but turns more ruby in the decanter. The aromatics are positively ancient. This reminds me of some of the late 19C/early 20C Bordeaux on the Bern's list. Full of old crypt-like scents, cigar tobacco, and sweet nuttiness. There is no fruit left at all. It is fully tertiary, but still at the point where it is packed with character rather than being anonymously autumnal. It's sticky and persistent though it seems to still have a line of acidity keeping it in form, though beyond that whatever structure is left is totally subsumed by the material.

  • Bricking into the wine. Nose is evolved but floral, some tobacco and sweet fruit. Lovely in the mouth, a great mix of fruit & development, a trace of tannin and a long finish.
