Dark black purple color. I'm a fan of Peay wines, but this Syrah was flat and uninteresting; underdeveloped blue/black fruits; perhaps it is in a dumb phase. I'll wait a couple of years before I open my next bottle, but I am not confident age will help.

Decanted for an hour. This has polish and poise, with raw meat, stone, boysenberry, cherry wood drawers and white pepper. A medium finish that shines with fine delineation. There's a little funk on the back end. Drink 2017 - 2023.

We love cool climate Syrah. We drink more of it than any other variety. This is not easy to do as there is not much truly cold climate Syrah made in the world. The 2012 Les Titans captures what attracts us to this style of wine. The nose reminds us of a white pepper and nicoise olive inflected meat sauce, perhaps after braising a leg of lamb. Thyme, tarragon and sage provide an herbal edge and gives lift. The palate adds lead and graphite flavors to huckleberry and dark sour cherry fruit flavors. The wine is focused and has some texture but is not fat or heavy. The soft tannins provide delineation and structure and bode well for what will happen in the next 10-15 years in the bottle.

Flat - felt past it’s prime.
