(Lafarge Volnay "Clos des Chenes") This was not lacey and a bit foursquare and chunky. The nose smelled overripe of macerated cherries with not much else. This did not display much of that Volnay elegance that I have come to expect and seemed clumsy.

Perfect bottle of this. Very classic Volnay. That austere Lafarge touch that I love in this era but with lovely deep red fruits befitting the riper year. Complex and long. Great now but should cruise for another 4-5 years at peak.

Christmas' Eve Dinner. Opened just a few hours before dinner.
Nose not particularly expressive but very refined and complex, showing some signs of evolution but still some nice pinot fruit. The palate was stunning for its concentration, sweet red fruit and freshness, still with the bite of very fine-grained tannins. Overall wonderful and with many years of life ahead.

Slightly corked. You can tell there’s a good wine in here, a little bit of that still comes through for sure… but sadly it’s a flawed bottle and not particularly drinkable.

Another magnificent bottle. Pure, crisp, focused, penetrating, fresh, and above all, layered and complex. Lafarge's slowest-developing wine (which is saying something), but worth the wait. Cellared since original release.
