  • Advanced Blind Tasting with David Glancy MS at the San Fran Wine School; 2/10/2018-2/11/2018: Advanced Tasting Workshop Day 1 (D. Glancy at San Fran Wine School)

    Tasted Blind

A: Pale lemon green. Medium (-) viscosity
N: white flowers, herbs, lemon, green apple, sulphur and some asparagus/green veggies
P: Aromas confirmed with addition of white pepper, peach and real wet stone/minerality. Bone Dry, medium (+) acid and intensity. Medium alcohol, medium (-) body and medium finish
    Initial C:
Old World - more earth than fruit dominant
Cool Climate - Acidity tells me that
Varietal - Sauvignon Blanc or Grüner Veltliner
Vintage - 1-3 years as such wines are always consumed young
Final C (after reveal): I usually find more of a medicinal herb taste on gruner. WHITE PEPPER is a major Grüner Veltliner marker and so should have nailed the varietal earlier
12.5% alc, 100% grüner, stainless steel fermented, 1.6 g/l RS

  • Picked this out for a pad Thai dinner and it paired quite well.

    -Color: a pale gold
-Body: appears to be a medium- body, medium body on the palate
-Aroma: lemon and lime zest with a crisp minerality and an edge of Kaffir lime leaf with white pepper heat
-Palate: medium to medium high acidity with lime and lemon zest with just a little lemon pith and a spice centric lingering finish.

  • {screwcap, 12.5%, A$23} Pale straw. Steely nose - almost stainless steel, Brine, stones, minerals. Blind, I might have guessed albarino. The barest hint of spice emerges on the palate too, which has watery purity to it, with crisp acid, even balance, and a medium, crunchy and dry - but not rasping - finish. Not terribly varietal, but a decent drink all the same. Might age a few years.

  • One glass consumed over appetizers with friends. My quick impression is that this is triangulated pretty well by the last five or so notes. Medium body, medium acid, slightly green apple-ish and citrus fruit, a slight mineral/austere edge. A little simple, but quite satisfying for the price.
