Becky Wasserman & Co: Icons & Rising Stars of Burgundy (E&R Wine Shop, Portland OR): Bitter wood shavings on the nose. This smells like wood chips at the yard supply store (and I don't mean oak). Rich and soft fruit on the palate entry. Much prettier than expected from the nose. There's certainly tons of grippy, intense tannins, though. Great intensity of structure on the tight, compact finish. This needs a lot of time. 90+

La Paulée Grand Tasting of 2014 Vintage Burgundy (Pier 60, New York): Light ruby. Confected fruit scents (quite a shock after the first 2 wines!). Light weight, riper cherry with only a small amount of soil. Tannic. Finally, a wine with at least some path forward. Almost modern in style compared to the others.

La Paulée de New York - Grand Tasting (Pier Sixty - Chelsea Piers): Another miss, generally an unpleasant wine. Pass.
