Due to a combination of palate saturation, limited interest in some domains/appellations, and sheer inattention (strolled right past the Faiveleys that I meant to taste), the following notes capture perhaps 70% of the wines shown at this great but overwhelming event. More than enough for me to get a sense of the state of the 2014 vintage for both white and red wines.
So, what generalizations can one take away from this highly skewed sample of wines proudly shown by some of the best producers in Burgundy?
For the whites, I think it is an outstanding year from the Côte de Beaune to Chablis (not enough Maconais wines were represented to draw an opinion). The allure lies in the combination of richness and depth without overripeness, and the simultaneous retention of excellent acidity. The volume of the best Grand Crus is outstanding. The reputation of this being a high acid vintage is only relatively true for those who have tasted white Burgundy during the recent global warming years. Compared to vintages such as 2004 and 1996, there is nothing like the tart lemony flavors and raw, malic acidity in these 2014's, and I can't see the wines living as long (oxidation issues aside).
The reds seem like more of a mixed bag. Hardly anywhere was there the amplitude or structure that made me think a wine was a true vin de garde that needed 20 years. Even more backward Grand Crus such as Corton and Clos Vougeot were unusually approachable, with less than punishing acidity and tannin. The best wines were charming, fragrant, and promised pleasure and complexity over the mid-term rather than power or iconic heights. The downside is some wines that are slightly underripe and slight with overly green components.
Some personal favorites this year:
Whites-Paul Pillot Chassagnes (wow!), Lafon Meursaults (not usually to my taste), Boillot Bâtard, and Bouchard Chevalier
Reds-Both Jadot Grand Crus, Drouhin Griotte, Rousseau Chambertin (surprise, surpise. What else is new?)
Overachieving underdogs-Clos de la Roilette Fleurie Cuvée Tardive, Duroché Gevreys
2014 Moreau-Naudet & Fils Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Magnum. Light, salty, underripe lemon, fine acidity, good length.

2014 Domaine Eleni et Edouard Vocoret Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux

Light green. Good oyster plus orange. Light weight, only average intensity.

2014 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis 1er Cru Montmains
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Light, pure, citric, good acidity. OK but more akin to strong village wine than Premier Cru level.

2014 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis 1er Cru Vaulorent
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Pale. More pungent citrus and brothiness. Medium weight, better coverage than the Montmains, lemony, more soil. A step up.

2014 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Bougros Côte Bouguerots
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Light greenish. Very iodine aromas. Less fruity and ripe than the 2 Premier Cru wines. Dilute and unexciting in the mouth. Subpar.

2014 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Quite light color. Fragrant, floral high tones. More body and texture than the Bouguerots, but hardly authoritative feeling Clos. Broad feel with average acidity, some wood, limestone, and lemon. More complexity than power or grip.

2014 Domaine Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Les Forêts
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Pale, orange peel scents. Light, pure bright citrus, some sheen. Very good early appeal.

2014 Domaine Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Very light. Lower pitched and more saline than the Forêts. Broader than that wine with more glycerine and excellent texture, if perhaps less precision and minerality. Very good length and finish. Much more interesting than the Vocoret Butteaux.

2014 Domaine Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Light color. Salty nose. Lower toned, downplayed fruit, moderate concentration and acidity. Strongly soil-infused finish. Not as impressive today as I have found it before, but still very good (and great value in the U.S.).

2014 Domaine Louis Michel Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Light yellow. Fragrant citrus. Medium weight, and one of those Michels where the feel almost suggests some wood although none is present. Tart, lemony, and long. A beautiful, delicate, finely chiseled Grand Cru.

2015 Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Pale green. Lots of herbs and iodine. Medium weight, nice feel, ripe citrus, average concentration and certainly nothing special for this site. Good to note that given the reputation of the vintage, it is not especially fat, but the acidity is not that prominent either.

2014 Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Pale. More intense Chablis seashell aromatics than the 2015. More focused citrus, fine minerality, real grip, and increasing soil on the finish. Youthful, reserved, and much less friendly than the 2015, but this is the much better wine and has outstanding potential.

2014 Pierre Morey Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Light yellow. Oak and hazelnut. Incredible texture without a hulking wood imprint, zesty citrus, excellent acidity and finish. One of the star whites of the day.

2014 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault Clos de la Barre
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
Light yellow. Wafting, complex aroma already. Medium weight, lighter than usual, but this manages to have intense, bright citrus, wonderful acidity, and a superb finish. The wood has been significantly dialed back, much to the benefit of the terrific underlying material, which shines transparently.

2014 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 1er Cru Charmes
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Medium yellow. Also has a great nose. Bigger, rounder, and spicier than the Clos de la Barre with a higher level of wood that is well titrated to the depth of the wine. Dynamite citrus fruit, great combination of structure and flesh. While the Clos de la Barre is all restraint and elegance, this bottle has Grand Cru depth and dimension. Some of the most exciting, best balanced young Lafon whites in quite a few vintages. Superb!

2014 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Volnay 1er Cru Santenots-Du-Milieu
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Medium red. Forward red fruit and soil on the nose. Medium weight, unusually concentrated for Volnay, but in the most positive sense. Ripe red cherry, earth-infused, soft wood in the background, delightful finish. Wow, these three Premier Crus in both colors were stunning this year.

2014 Paul Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet Les Mazures

2014 Paul Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos St. Jean
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Complex and fragrant. Pear and lemon fruit, more glycerine, beautiful feel, super acidity. Terrific Chassagne Premier Cru and seemingly very much in the Pillot style.

2014 Paul Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Grande Montagne
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Light greenish. Perfumed citrus. Lighter and crisper than the previous wine with light wood and some feel. Focused orange peel, tart, taut finish. Very fine and youthful. This should become a lean, elegant wine that unfolds slowly.

2014 Paul Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Same light greenish yellow. A touch of sulfur, but overall amazingly complex aromas of white flowers and citrus. Balanced, harmonious, and mouth coating. Lime fruit, full of minerality, great persistence, properly dry finish at this point. Wow, I love these Pillot wines, which currently must be at the pinnacle of Chassagne winemaking-fragrance, balance, and cut seem to be baked into all of the bottlings.

2014 Simon Bize Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Talmettes
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru
Pale. Weedy black fruit. Light, high acid and earth, some fruit underneath. Not brutally dry, but not a lot of pleasure either. Ah, the Bize style. Gawd, whoever says that Burgundy is thin, tart, and fruitless must have this wine and its ilk in mind.

2014 Simon Bize Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Fournaux
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru
Very light ruby. More green here. High acidity and very earthy, but better feel than the Talmettes. Tannic, dry finish. Certainly not for the short term, but can it only become more attenuated and lean?

2014 Simon Bize Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Marconnets
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru
Light ruby. Confected fruit scents (quite a shock after the first 2 wines!). Light weight, riper cherry with only a small amount of soil. Tannic. Finally, a wine with at least some path forward. Almost modern in style compared to the others.

2014 Simon Bize Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Vergelesses
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru
Pale. Perfumed and minty. Citrus and light red fruit with an earthy base, and moderate acidity. Young and backward, but by far the most balanced wine in the line up. That's not saying much.

2014 Domaine Henri Boillot Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières

2014 Domaine Henri Boillot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Mouchère

2014 Domaine Henri Boillot Bâtard-Montrachet
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru

2014 Domaine Henri Boillot Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets

Light color and body. Sour cherry and soil that is penetrating. More typical Volnay weight than the bigger Lafon Santenots. Excellent.

2014 Domaine Génot-Boulanger Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Aromatic tart lemon. Excellent mouth feel, Puligny cut and acidity, some wood protrudes a bit on the end. I liked this.

2014 Domaine Génot-Boulanger Clos Vougeot
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Medium ruby. Game, earth, and green tones. Medium weight, obvious oak. Sweet black cherry, little soil on the palate, good length. Rather clumsy wine with none of the complexity, reserve, or youthful austerity of Clos Vougeot. In the end, a pretty good gulp now, nothing more, and that is pretty underwhelming for Grand Cru level wine.

2014 Domaine Francois et Antoine Jobard Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières

2014 Domaine Hudelot-Baillet Chambolle-Musigny

2014 Domaine Hudelot-Baillet Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes

2014 Domaine Hudelot-Baillet Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras

2014 Domaine Hudelot-Baillet Bonnes Mares
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
This has more earth and is less overtly fruity than the Chambolles, but is really not that much more concentrated or complex than the Cras. I've been more impressed with older vintages of this.

2014 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Ruby. Black fruit and spice. As usual for this wine, lovely restrained middle weight, excellent feel and balance. Moderate oak shows now, but I would expect it to be easily integrated, as the older vintages suggested.

2014 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Murgers
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

Ruby. A most beautiful, supple soil-filled feel and round but light texture. So much wine here for the weight-expansive spice and blue fruit, wonderful acidity. Gorgeous. I always look forward to tasting this seductive Hudelot cuvée that is driven by finesse and its succulent fruit.

2014 Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Ruchottes-Chambertin
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru
First impression was surprisingly mediocre-very light and like the Nuits in its fruit/soil mix but somewhat dilute and flat. A different bottle was much more like it, with deeper cherry fruit and a more lingering finish. I'm glad I went back to retaste it since it is usually so stellar, although it may not be at the high level of other recent vintages.

2014 Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Clos Vougeot
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
As with the Ruchotte, some bottle variation. First taste showed the usual elegance, but the fruit was diffuse and not well defined. Another bottle later had more length, grip, and dynamic interplay of black cherry and blood orange. Again, had I only tried the initial bottle, I would have been underwhelmed.

2014 Louis Jadot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Garenne Domaine du Duc de Magenta
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

2014 Louis Jadot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Embazées

2014 Louis Jadot Clos St. Denis Domaine Gagey

Light, limpid color. More overtly stemmy than the 1er Cru. Thinner feel, higher acidity, and less fruit than that wine. One can only hope that it fleshes out over time, but it is not showing much right now, like a lesser, poorly balanced 2008. I have a hard time believing there is enough fruit for the long haul.

Ruby. Profound, riveting nose of essence of black cherry and wet earth. Light but incredibly sappy, complex entry. Then expansive and powerful, culminating in an impossibly long, clay filled finish. This is at a completely different level, and if you tasted it on its own, you'd conclude that 2014 must be a great vintage to produce such a great wine. A baby whose compelling material and balance already provoke exclamations of joy.

2014 Domaine Duroché Gevrey-Chambertin
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Light color and weight. Pure, sweet red fruit with a tart, acidic edge. What a nice basic Gevrey.

2014 Domaine Duroché Gevrey-Chambertin Le Clos
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Pale. More textured than the village wine. Candied dark cherry fruit and soil-lovely!

2014 Domaine Duroché Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaut St. Jacques
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Light ruby. Elegant black cherry with slightly lower acidity. Excellent soil and length. I don't clearly prefer this to the lieu dit. Both are delightful and well made.

2014 Domaine Duroché Latricières-Chambertin
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru
Light with earthy aromatics. Subdued red fruit, a bit of green, lots of soil, higher acidity. This is more serious and ageworthy than the lower tier wines but less impressive in comparison to other Gevrey Grand Crus tasted today. Very good.

2014 Domaine Perrot-Minot Nuits St. Georges Les Murgers des Cras
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges
Light ruby. Pomegranate and plum. Light but sappy. Sweet red/black fruit, less soil, drying tannins. Straightforward but good.

2014 Domaine Perrot-Minot Vosne-Romanée Les Champs Perdrix
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
Light purple. Spicy nose. Medium weight, strong oak flavors, again a little simple, astringent wood tannins.

2014 Domaine Perrot-Minot Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru La Combe d'Orveau Cuvée Ultra Vieilles Vignes
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Light ruby. Appealing red fruit and spice notes. Light, elegant, more terroir. More Burgundian than the first 2 wines. Very good.

2014 Domaine Perrot-Minot Charmes-Chambertin
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Light ruby. Green aromas plus red fruit. Light but nice veneer. Complex, lively, nice sweetness of fruit, some earth. Dry finish, grainy tannins. Excellent lighter Gevrey Grand Cru
