  • Second Sunday Group: 2014 Chassagne-Montrachet (Neil's): Well here is something you don't see every day. Courtesy of Marty's cold cellar. Opens with a lovely bouquet of mixed floral tones including rose and lavender. Hints of wild phlox too, along with dried fruit. Remarkably, there's still fruit on the palate as well. White currants and dried cherry flavors, along with rose water and just the slightest hint of spice. Improved in the glass for half an hour at least. Very, very pretty. 93+ pts.

  • Gaja Charity Dinner & Tasting for HealthServe (Taberna, Bukit Merah): A lovely matured wine, clearly past its prime, but still very enjoyable. This smelt old, with meaty, funky, forest floor aromas at first, almost broiled tripe at points, then an uplift of herb and spice, sweet scents of wilted flowers and some cooked fruit on the background. Not bretty like the last two wines I thought, just a nice old wine funk. With time though, more of the sweeter fruit and flower petal nuances started coming to the fore. The palate was very mature as well, with mellow flavours of berries and dark cherries, and more funky dried earth and brush herb notes, all lined with fine, slightly powdery tannins and perfectly integrated acidity. There was a lovely round softness and charm, all wonderfully resolved, leading into a gentle finish, where a blush of wood spice bloomed amidst sweeter cooked fruit notes. It was neither the strongest nor the longest wine, but still certainly more than adequate. This really came alive with food too, with the flavours taking on a new vibrancy and energy over dinner. Very enjoyable indeed.

  • This wine was bought from a shop that had bought it directly from a respected collection (original owner). The price was a bargain, but the wine had not been topped up or recorked.

There were some flaws, the wine had broken and early pours had a traslucent, "watery" look, though the flavor components were all there. Later pours were throwing off tons of fine sediment.

This one was ready to go, but it wasn't totally a loss. It had all the cough syrupy deep savory notes of a Piemonte wine that you'd expect, and the acid was still quite present. Just the structure was a little messed up and the overall progression on the palate was very disjointed.

  • Lys brun, og oransje kant på fargen. Mørke frukter, noe oksidert på nesen. Gode tanniner, frisk syre. Lang ettersmak av lær.
