Birthday dinner at Bern's. Decent fill, color and cork. Bern’s discovered three cases of this in their warehouse recently (their giant wine warehouse is the “gift that keeps on giving,” said the somm). This was incredibly alive and expressive. Given that is was only a Fourth Growth, you might not expect 60+ years of longevity, but it was a good vintage and good storage will do a lot for a wine! Dried cherry and dried currants on the nose with leather and lead pencil shavings. There was a very light touch of “green” on the nose (almost like a shade of what whole cluster fermentation might contribute to a Pinot Noir) that was pleasant and added complexity. Good purity with nothing funky on the nose and balanced acidity with red fruit flavors. The wine was still holding up the next morning, too, which really surprised me. While it wasn't an awe-inspiring wine, it gets extra points for its age and punching above its weight class.

50th Birthday Dinner (Bern's Steakhouse - Tampa, FL): Lots of funk and barnyard on the nose initially that mostly blew off over time. Red currant fruit with medium body and acidity with cedar notes on the medium length complex finish.

Still giving life, with dried cherry and plum notes, plenty of mushroom and cedar secondary notes.

Excellent fill level - still in great shape. The fruit has receded a bit and been replaced by dry cherry and cola notes. Medium body, soft tannins.
