  • Since 1978 it is made as a single vineyard ‘Grand Cru’. Ripe and big Barolo full of rich and lush aromas and flavours. Deep garnet colour, bric rim. Intense complex aroma of dried smoky roses, smoke, dried meat, dusty cherries, dry earth, tar, smoky plums, licorice, new leather. Full body, concentrated and powerful structure, ripe and deep multilayered smoky red fruits, earth, chocolate, high acidity, grippy fine and sticky tannins.

  • A big modern Barolo. I guess any evaluation of this wine reflects if you like this style of wine. This might not be my favourite, but its really great anyway.
Rose petals, tar, spices and black fruit on the seductive nose. Rich and full bodied palate also with a lot of licorice and sweet fruit. An amazing long finish. A little too much dryness, but better with a little air.

  • Surprisingly youthful for a 19-y-old wine, this single-vineyard Barolo is a block-buster. Decanted. Med+ ruby w/ a garnet rim. Dark for a Barolo. Med+ black cherry, blackberry, red cherry, red flowers, and mocha and new French oak spice. Dry, with med+ acidity, med+ to pronounced tannins and high (14.5%) alcohol. Full-bodied, w/ med+ to pronounced flavor intensity and length. Still a baby, it will benefit from a decant and many additional years of aging. Modern stylings. WS 95

  • In the context of more traditional Barolo, this showed too much oak and extraction. The sort of wine I'd have to be in the mood for. Judgment reserved.

  • Bouquet of berries masked by rubbery, tarry elements, a bit of flowers. Nice palate, balanced sweetness and acidity, a bit stern on the finish, still coarse with some tannins improving second and third night. A bit clunky as Scavino is in the 2000s, but enjoyable and slowly getting to a fully mature stage.
