Flowers and herbs dominate the nose at first, then some boysenberry and blackcurrant, all quite refined. The attack is fresh and bright, with blueberries and blackcurrant, but all very elegant and restrained, before a fairly rich middle section, more blackberry than any other fruits, with a hint of plum and a spiciness to it that does no harm whatsoever. Excellent balance and enough acidity to keep the finish crisp and elegant. Drinking quite well already with more pleasure to come. 91 pts with scope for more.
Tried with a Labégorce 2016 - the contrast could not have been clearer. After the stodgy, lactic Labégorce, at last, some proper Margaux finesse and elegance.
Desmirail is not a name that comes up in anyone’s lists of favourite Margaux, mine included, but the 2016 was a welcome reminder of how good it can be. This will not trouble the top wines, but it’ll age nicely over the next ten years and be ready before the big guns are. I paid 28 euros originally, and the same at auction last week – so like the Labégorce for a lot more quality.
Going back to the two wines side-by-side, the lack of class of the Labégorce was really quite painful to perceive.

The wine is medium-bodied, with an herbal edge to the red fruits, in a forward style.

UCGB tasting Bordeaux 2016 (Beurs van Berlage, Amsterdam.): PnP the wine is still a bit locked, but it shows red and dark berries, good vanilla, acidity and bitterness. 90 - 91

Amsterdam UGCB Tasting and Winemakers' Dinner (Beurs van Berlage / Café De Klepel): Lovely typicity, both vintage and commune. Floral, fresh, delightful fruit, elegant structure, feminine style, very approachable. There is real finesse here.

The 2016 vintage UGCB tasting in Amsterdam 2/25/2019; 2/25/2019-2/27/2019 (Amsterdam): A bit raw with firm bitters from the start, than the wine continues very classic, in fact, for me, a bit too classic. Will time help the wine?
