Nose: Cherry, vanilla, baking spice, leather. Palate: Coconut, cedar, cherry, vanilla, tobacco. Acidity is mild, tannins are smooth, but I feel it drying my cheeks out. Enjoyed it overall. From what I understand, this wasn't a great vintage for Rioja, but it appears they made the best of it. Lack of concentration is my big gripe.

From magnum. Aromas of cherry, plum, vanilla, tobacco, smoke, spices. Medium+ acidity, medium+ body, medium ripe tannins. Drinking good now, but can stay.

Retail $39. 90% Tempranillo, 10% Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo. The last of six Riojas in a single blind tasting. Another fairly dark wine, but this nose is much more expressive, with rich berry fruit, some vanilla, spice. Really good fruit on the palate with plenty of spice, loads of acidity, and a strong finish. Outstanding.
Cherries. A hint of cigarbox but not overpowering, at all. Really lean and tight. Very nice sour fruitiness. The alc. of 13.5% can't be felt whatsoever! It still tastes young. Excellent length and NO cutoff finish. This is really juicy stuff. A hint of malt, too.
