A lovely old wine. Great condition, softened with age but has that sweet fruit that only comes with 30+ years in bottle. Ripe cassis, sous bois and a touch of eucalyptus. Just lovely. A real revelation.

Still very much alive. Cork in good shape. Expressive nose of leather and plums. Still some fruit on palate but very developed. Fruit faded after 20 minutes. More than enjoyable. your experience will be dictated by the cork first and cellaring conditions second.

SLDS May 2018: The 1986 Jimmy Watson trophy winner. Eucalyptus, chocolate, lots of green, stalky, vegetable characters that take over the nose. The palate has held up and still shows some fruit that mixes well with the herbal elements. Pretty full on with the green characters but is still drinking decently well.

Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cab Franc and Malbec. The cork was wet through and a bit fragile but came out with care. The wine was brick/brown and bright an initial sniff showed sweet cassis and cedar. The wine was stunning. Not quite Bordeaux like, it was lacking in the cigar box, leather notes but there was a nutty, sweet quality Plenty of red currant and berry flavors and a hint of mint. Good 10 second finish For its age 29years wonderful

So the 1986 Jimmy Watson eh? Took about an hour for the funky nose to blow off. Then smell of leather and forest floor, colour was full brown, palate was intense but rather one dimensional, good tannin structure, long finish but with a bitter note right at the end. A nice experience but probably a few years past it's peak.
