  • From a very cold cellar - still deep red to the rim, almost a hint of purple at the core - no brick whatsoever - would never think this was 24 years old - deep red fruits, a touch of stalkiness and underbrush - a wine to drink with food (we had a foie gras terrine with white wine jelly and carrot puree). Fruits on the mature side but still this wine presents about 8-10 years old, not 24.

  • Cloudy ruby color. Interesting nose of macerated cherries and metallic minerals. Monolithic at first but after 1-2 hours it began to show up especially on the finish. A lovely cut of dark cherry fruit with excellent succulence and grip. Lots of ferrous minerals on the finish where a wonderful dark cherry spice complexity shows up portending what this wine may become someday. This strikes me as a very long-term wine that should make beautiful old bones. 93+

  • Paulee. Felt more evolved than it should.

  • Nice ruby color with a bit of browning on the edges. Lovely nose of sweet cherries and spiced earth. Fairly structured still and offering interesting flavors of iron minerals, earthy cherries and spicebox. Good lively acidity keeps it fresh and the finish is dry and grippy with notes of red spice and minerals. This really needed a good hour or two of air to begin to show itself but still I was left a bit disappointed. Perhaps this bottle sourced from Benchmark suffered just a bit along the way.

  • In May 2012 I tasted this and underrated it by quite a bit, but it was a hard wine to decipher. Now, several years later, it is showing a very interesting direction but clearly not there yet - so keep your hands off of this for another 5-10 years. Tasting side by side with the 1990, the nose of rich black spicy fruit was a direct parallel to the '90, just younger and a tad less unctuous. The palate is straining to show more but it just isn't ready yet. Will be a great wine.
