G. Conterno v. B. Giacosa (Maialino): This is a dynamic and intriguing nose that is much different than the Rocce del Falletto with smoky reduction that is hard to place on an old Nebbiolo, dried leathery berry, and dry earth. I find this more musty than most. I also find the palate thinner than most, although quite nice in the broader context of these wines tonight.

Somewhat tired. Decanted delicately. Very cloudy (you need to stand up at least a week before serving). Surprisingly sweet fruit, with some tannins still left. But certainly beyond its peak.

This looked good out of the bottle, but was unfortunately showing off/oxidative notes. Followed over the course of 24 hours to see if there was any improvement but it didn't happen. Seems like there's a really great wine underneath so this is clearly not representative.

No formal notes, but this wine was drinking magnificently. Just a stunning wine and a highlight of the year so far.
